PEARL JAM

Os Pearl Jam fixaram uma fundação musical que ficaria a ser conhecida simplesmente por "Grunge". A banda tomou forma depois da morte por overdose de heroína do vocalista dos Mother Love Bone. Após o sucedido o guitarrista Stone Gossard e o baixista Jeff Ament recrutaram o guitarrista solo Mike McCready, Dave Krusen para a bateria e Eddie Vedder para a voz... nasceram assim os Pearl Jam.

No outono de 1990, surgiu o Mookie Blaylock que em novembro do mesmo ano viria a chamar-se Pearl Jam, nome sugerido por Vedder, que, numa brincadeira, disse ser uma homenagem a uma suposta geléia com poderes alucinógenos que sua avó (chamada Pearl) fazia.


O significado mais provável, entretanto, é vindo do baixista da banda, Jeff Ament, segundo ele esse nome teria surgido depois dele assistir uma apresentação das bandas Sonic Youth e Crazy Horse, sem nenhuma relação com geléias ou coisas do tipo.


Pearl Jam é uma das poucas bandas grunges que continuou ativa até hoje, mesmo após o fim das suas outras bandas contemporâneas.
